Penguins, Pirates Among Sports Teams With Biggest Increase In Attendance
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Pittsburgh Pirates are among a new list of the teams with the biggest increase in fan attendance.
The list was compiled by 24/7 Wall St.
They say that in the past 10-years, the Penguins have increased their attendance by 56.7 percent.
The Pens now have an average home attendance record of 18,617, and have sold out the CONSOL Energy Center more than 400 times in a row.
The Pirates have increased have seen a 34.1 percent increase in attendance.
The Bucs now average 30,846 for their home games.
24/7 says the Penguins are a classic example of how several abysmal seasons can potentially result in a massive increase in attendance.
The poor finishes translated into high NFL draft lottery picks and led to the drafting of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.
