Fans Flock To Stores To Get Hands On Stanley Cup Gear

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Penguins claimed their second straight Stanley Cup, which sent fans to local retailers looking for gear.

A number of Dick's Sporting Goods stores opened right after the game and were packed.

"Wall to wall people from the time we opened after the game until 3:30-4 o'clock in the morning," Jim Famularo, of Dick's Sporting Goods, said.

Many of those same stores reopened at 6 a.m.

In addition to the extended hours, four locations -- McCandless, South Hills, Robinson and Cranberry -- will have in-store celebrations, including rally walls, rally beards and face painting.

However, Dick's isn't the only place that opened up early. PensGear turned the lights on at 7 a.m. for fans

"This morning, I left my house at 6:30 to come to PensGear and PPG Paints Arena and get some Stanley Cup merch," Ben Grove said.

And, there's no shortage of options either.

"We've got pucks, T-shirts, new items are gonna be arriving daily over the next few days so we're just really excited to bring all this gear to the fans of Pittsburgh," PensGear's Laura Bishop said.

While the numbers aren't in on what kind of spike in profit it's given retailers, we're told that there were even more people buying last night and today than after last year's win.
