Penguins Bringing Back Big Screen For Home First-Round Playoff Games

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Penguins are bringing back the big screen for the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After word that the tradition might be in jeopardy, the team made the announcement this afternoon on Twitter, citing high interest from fans and city officials as the reason.

According to the team, the big screen will only be in operation for home games against the New York Rangers.

It will be located near the Peoples Gate at CONSOL Energy Center, which is at the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Place.

In a statement, Penguins President and CEO David Morehouse said: "Our original decision was that we wouldn't be able to do it because of the construction, but interest in a Big Screen from our fans and Mayor Peduto was so overwhelming that we came up with this solution. We invite fans who don't have tickets to join us here by watching Penguins playoff hockey on the Big Screen at the Peoples Gate. It is sure to add to the festive playoff atmosphere."

As for road games, the Penguins say fans can gather across the street from the arena at Buford's Kitchen restaurant for official watch parties.
