PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired center Derick Brassard in a three-team trade with the Ottawa Senators and Vegas Golden Knights.

The Pens announced the deal Friday night during their game at Carolina.

In the trade, the Penguins are getting Brassard, a 2018 third-round draft pick and forward prospects Vince Dunn and Tobias Lindberg.

In exchange, the Pens are sending defenseman Ian Cole, goaltending prospect Filip Gustavsson, their 2018 first-round draft pick and a 2019 third-round draft pick to Ottawa, and forward Ryan Reaves and a 2018 fourth-round draft pick to Vegas.

Vegas is also retaining 40 percent of Brassard's salary.

There were reports that the NHL at first did not approve the trade.

Brassard, 30, has 18 goals and 20 assists in 58 games this season for the Senators. In 78 career playoff games, Brassard has racked up 22 goals and 33 assists.

He is signed through the 2018-19 season and carries a $5 million salary cap hit.

Meanwhile, Cole is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. In 47 games this season, he registered 3 goals and 10 assists.
