PLEASANT HILLS (KDKA) -- Allegheny County police say a white pickup truck was traveling southbound on Rt. 51 in Pleasant Hills around 2 a.m. when the driver hit a pedestrian who was walking in the middle of the road.

"When they arrived they found a 35-year-old man suffering from major trauma from a large part of his body. He was transported a local hospital where he was listed in very critical condition and may not survive those injuries," said Lt. Andrew Schurman, with Allegheny County Police.

"The pedestrian was most likely walking northbound in the center turning lane," Lt. Schurman added.

Police say the woman driving the truck called 9-1-1 to report that she had hit someone. Police say the victim, a 35-year-old man, was staying at a nearby motel and was walking in the center lane of the road. Part of Route 51 was closed in both directions for three hours, while an accident reconstruction team conducted their investigation. Police say the driver of the pickup truck, whose daughter was with her when the accident happened, was cooperative.

"She and her daughter were returning from some late Christmas shopping," Lt. Schurman said, "She was cooperative and we do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in her involvement."

Route 51 re-opened around 5:15a.m. Allegheny County police will inspect the truck that was involved in the accident. Police say at this point, they don't expect to file any charges.
