Paul Chryst: Fine With Miscues Against FIU If They Lead To Improvement
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pitt football head coach Paul Chryst joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Thursday for his regular weekly spot with the Panthers set to take on Iowa at Heinz Field at noon on Saturday.
While talking about some of his team's various miscues early on against Florida International last week, Chryst said how they respond to those mistakes will define them more than the mistakes themselves.
"Each game is kind of a chapter. And in the season, the book is written on who you are," Chryst said. "[There are] lessons to be learned. If we do learn it, and if we improve from it, then those are okay. If we don't, then shame on us."
Chryst is happy with his team's undefeated start, and aims to find a balance between embracing that success and finding ways to be better.
"We are doing some good things, and you never want to take that away," Chryst said. "The start has been good. 3-0 is better than any other alternative, but there's a lot of things that we've got to clean up and to do. You just kind of keep adjusting those. [I] talk all the time with the guys- the things you're doing well, you've got to build on those. We've all got our weaknesses, and we've got to try to work to improve those."
Chryst also offered a response to former Pitt head coach and current FOX Sports analyst Dave Wannstedt's comments about the need for Pitt Athletic Director Steve Pederson to get on the same page as him.
"I think we've done a lot, and I'm proud of it," Chryst said. "No one does it alone, and I feel like there's a lot of people that have their hand in it. And we're not where we want to be, on the field, football-wise, and there's always room for improvement, but we've done a lot... I've never felt like I'm in this alone."
Chryst joins "The Fan Morning Show" Thursdays at 7:20 a.m.
