Pat Narduzzi: Players Have To Be Accountable On And Off Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)-Bob Pompeani previewed Pitt training camp with head coach Pat Narduzzi as camp begins on Aug. 10.

Narduzzi recently suspended Tyler Boyd and Rori Blair for the season opener for off-the-field incidents over the offseason. Narduzzi says that taking away a game impacts the players negatively.

"Suspended from workouts and being around your teammates is one thing, but to lose one of those 12 opportunities (games) is a big thing. It doesn't matter who you're playing, it's a major thing for a kid. It's something you don't want to do, but our guys gotta be accountable and gotta pay attention to details, not only on the field which everybody sees, but off the field," Narduzzi said.

Narduzzi told Pompeani that the offense begins with being able to run the ball.

"It starts off we've got to be able to run the football, so I think anytime you've got a back like James Connner in the backfield, people have to commit themselves to being able to stop the run," Narduzzi said. "So when they're stacking the box, it's obviously going to give Tyler (Boyd) a chance."

Narduzzi said that he can't wait to start his first camp with the Panthers.

"We're getting anxious, that's for sure," Narduzzi said.
