PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A two-vehicle crash caused quite a mess on the Parkway East Friday morning.
The accident happened right at the start of the Oakland Exit of the Parkway East around 5 .m.
The backups were extensive, with traffic at a standstill while crews worked to clear up the two vehicles involved.
State police say a car was driving in the center lane of the eastbound side of the road.
A bread truck was headed in the same direction, but a little behind in the left lane.
Authorities believe speed and the rain caused the car to lose control, cross through the left lane and into the emergency pull off, where the it slammed into a concrete median. After striking the median, the car came back into the left lane, where it struck the bread truck.
The impact forced the bread truck into an area called the "contaminator," which has barrels.
Police say there wasn't a fire, but there was smoke seen filtering into the air from the car's engine.
Five people were involved, but police say no one was injured.
It took some time to get the road cleared as both vehicles had to be towed away.
The road fully reopened around 7 a.m.
