Woman shot, killed in Braddock
BRADDOCK (KDKA) - Pennsylvania State Police are now taking over an investigation into a shooting that left a woman dead in Braddock.
Sade Lanise Brown, 33, of the Braddock area was shot and killed Tuesday night while standing along Pine Way.
"I looked around and saw there were a couple more bullet holes in our doors on this side of the street," said Jeff Staab, warehouse manager for Cost Company.
Staab said when he got to work at 7 a.m., he saw bullet holes on both sides of the street. He's worked in Braddock for four years and has seen his fair share of shootings. Only this time was too close to home.
"Luckily for us, at least, it was in the evening time and guys weren't working in here. Going through these aluminum doors, you worry about that," he says.
State police say Brown was shot in the chest while standing outside an apartment shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brown was rushed to the hospital and later died.
Detectives were back at the scene on Wednesday gathering more evidence and talking to witnesses. No shell casings were found at the scene, which makes the homicide more difficult to solve.
"I've been here since '79, now everybody is getting killed. Every other week or every month, young and old," Braddock resident Donna Thomas said.
Due to low staffing, Braddock police didn't have an officer on duty when the shooting happened. North Braddock police responded and secured the scene until state police arrived.
Chief Brian Bradford, who has only been on the job for a day, said the department doesn't have enough officers to work the afternoon shift.
"It's a manpower shortage that's been going on for a little while. With the pay and, unfortunately, with today's climate with police officers, people aren't waiting to do it," Bradford said.
No arrests have been made. If you have any information you're asked to call police.
