Pa. Liquor Control Board Approves Expanded Wine Permits

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Wine is coming to a grocery store near you.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board just approved 81 expanded wine permits; many are for grocery stores in the Pittsburgh area.

The permits allow stores to sell up to three liters of wine per transaction from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

In a statement, Gov. Tom Wolf said: "We have worked to provide greater convenience and satisfaction to Pennsylvania customers and now comes the important work of implementing the law. I am encouraged that the PLCB has worked so diligently to approve wine expanded permits and we must continue to work to make sure this law is executed properly and quickly. Our goal has always been to improve the customer experience, make pricing more competitive, make the purchase of products more convenient, and bring more revenue into the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."

In Allegheny County, 20 stores can now sell wine, including 16 Giant Eagles.

Giant Eagles in New Castle and Indiana, Pennsylvania, are also on the list, as well as a business in Cranberry Township.
