Detectives said they determined the suspect broke into the home by kicking in a side door then fought with the victim. During the fight, a single gunshot was fired, hitting the victim in the back, police said.

Through surveillance video and witness interviews, detectives said they identified 60-year-old Evan Hughes of Wilkinsburg as the suspect. On Friday, police said they were actively looking for Hughes and asked anyone with information to call the county police tipline. In an update, police later said he was taken into custody on Monday morning.
