One killed, one in critical condition in shooting outside of Munhall bar
MUNHALL (KDKA) - A shooting outside of this neighborhood bar in Munhall on Saturday morning has left one person dead and neighbors demanding change.
It all happened just before 2 a.m. on Ravine Street and police said several rounds were fired in front of the bar which was recently renamed to J's Juke Joint.
Marty Lischner lives right across the street from J's and says he heard the whole thing.
"I was actually getting ready to go to bed and we just heard extremely loud gunfire," he said. "I knew it was gunfire. I just came outside as soon as the gunfire started fading. I came outside to see what was going on and sure enough...it was bad. That's all I can tell you. It was bad."
When first responders arrived on the scene they found evidence of a shooting, but no one was hurt or injured. They were quickly informed however that several people had been wounded and were driven to the hospital in private vehicles.
As of right now, we know that one man was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another man is in critical condition, and a third man and one woman are currently in stable condition.
Several neighbors told us, they feel this bar has been problematic since it came under new management. They say that customers fighting in the street, having arguments with neighbors and even gunfire happen here far too often.
"This bar, from day one, has been a complete nuisance, I mean, they have urinated on my house, parked in my driveway, packed in front of the neighbors' driveways, throwing garbage everywhere, they're loud," Lischner. "They stay open till 2,3,4,5 o'clock in the morning. It is an absolute nuisance bar."
The Mayor of Munhall, Rob Falce, came to the scene early this morning to support both his residents and his police officers. He confirmed what the neighbors told us.
"I have heard concerns about the bar," Falce said. "There are residences that have contacted me about the loud music, the parking down here, and some other activities, but we have had nothing like this till now."
Falce also told us that this bar will be closed for the rest of the weekend and that the bar's future could very well be in jeopardy as an investigation into this shooting and the bar's dealings is now underway.
We asked the owner of J's for comment, but she declined to speak with us.
However, the bar did release a statement via its Facebook page.
Mayor Falce said a shooting like this is heartbreaking for all involved.
"You feel sad something like this happens," he said. "You know you feel sad for the victim. You feel sad for the people that live here and you feel sad for the people that just want to come down here and have a drink at this bar and then something like this happens."
Now, Allegheny County Homicide Detectives are investigating, and they are asking the public for their help. Anybody with any information on this shooting is asked to call the County Police Tipline.
