One Arrested In Overnight Smash & Grab In Verona
VERONA (KDKA) - A man was arrested after an overnight smash and grab robbery in Verona.
Verona Police Chief Ron McLemore says police were alerted to the robbery by an alarm around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday.
When police arrived, they found that somebody had smashed one of the front windows at Dirty Harry's Bicycle Shop on Allegheny River Boulevard.
Penn Hills Police and Oakmont Police helped in searching for the suspect.
"They see a guy pushing two bikes down the road, which is kind of curious to them, so they stopped him and he tried to hide from them," Chief McLemore said.
Police say the suspect, who wouldn't give officers his real name, admitted to taking the bicycle and the Dirty Harry's tag was still on it.
The suspect was taken back to the Penn Hills Police station and he was later transported to the Allegheny County Jail.
The owner of Dirty Harry's says the overnight burglary was the third at their bicycle shop, in less than a month.
"The business has been burglarized a couple of other times," said Chief McLemore. "We're hoping to be able to solve all of those other cases with the arrest that was made tonight."
No other businesses have been burglarized in Verona, but several businesses in nearby towns have been the target of smash and grab burglars.
There is no word if any of the other smash and grabs in the area are related to Thursday morning's incident.
