Olympic Town Sochi Is Home To Pittsburgh-Themed Bar
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - There are Steelers bars all across the country and the world, but what are the odds of a Pittsburgh themed bar in Russia?
Well, it turns out there is one and in Sochi, home of the 2014 winter Olympics, no less.
So how did it get there?
Jared Wickerham, staff photographer for Getty Images and graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, is currently in Sochi covering the Olympics and did some digging.
Wickerham talked to the bartender and he told him through and interpreter, "the owner was just in Pittsburgh he kind of just liked the city and liked the idea of it and decided to turn it into a bar."
What makes it Pittsburgh themed? Wickerham says, "You see [miniature statues of] Fifth Avenue Place and PPG on the outside and the West End Bridge." Once you get into the bar he says there are pictures of different parts of the sky line hanging up around the bar.
"That's the extent of it," says Wickerham. They don't serve Iron City or Primanti's sandwiches.
Along with covering the Olympics, Wickerham has previously worked with the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
