Vehicle Strikes College Student, Flees In Oakland

OAKLAND (KDKA) -- A driver fled the scene after striking a college student in Oakland on Sunday.

It happened at Fifth Avenue and De Soto Street around 7:30 p.m.

According to Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler, a 20-year-old woman was struck by a pickup truck.

Witnesses say the driver stopped, got out of the vehicle, walked over to the pedestrian, then fled the scene toward Downtown Pittsburgh.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

The driver, a 34-year-old man from Apollo, came forward Monday morning. His identity has not yet been released.

Police say a warrant will be issued for his arrest on charges including reckless driving, causing accidents involving personal injury and failing to immediately notify police of the accident.
