Nonprofit Working To Send Mother With Terminal Cancer, Family To Outer Banks
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A family of five will soon be heading on their dream vacation to North Carolina thanks to a local charity and generous donations from local people.
Doctors have told 43-year-old Dana Rossey she doesn't have much time in her battle against terminal cancer.
"She has had cancer for a while and we've been planning on going on vacation, but she ended up in the hospital and we don't know if we'll be able to go on vacation," said Rossey's husband Ken.
Now, just getting her to the beach is the biggest hurdle.
That's where Jamie's Dream Team comes in.
"Unfortunately, Dana can not travel by aircraft, commercial aircraft," said Jamie Holmes with Jamie's Dream Team. "And she cannot travel by car."
"If there is anyone that can help get my mom to the beach, it would be really appreciated by my family," said Rossey's daughter Alyssa.
Jamie's Dream Team is a Pittsburgh nonprofit. They worked quickly to raise $10,000 to pay for a private plane that can fly the family to the Outer Banks to celebrate every holiday of the year together. The gift will also provide spending money for the family and a rental car.
"We don't know if it will be our last one and they said she don't have a lot of time," said Ken Rossey. "The kids were really looking forward to taking this vacation."
"Let's do this again Pittsburgh," said Holmes. "You guys have helped us in the past. We've done it before in less than a week, and I just need to get this done. I just need to get her to North Carolina."
All the money was raised by Friday evening and the Rossey family will take off Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for Allegheny County Airport.
