Nick Kypreos Breaks Down A Few Potential Pens Free Agent Targets
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Sportsnet NHL insider and league alumnus Nick Kypreos joined Colin Dunlap, Josh Miller, and Jim Colony on "The Fan Morning Show" Tuesday to preview NHL free agency.
He labeled a couple guys that suited up for the Rangers this season as potential bang-for-the-buck bottom six-type targets for the Pens.
"Brian Boyle would be a real interesting one," Kypreos said. "Clearly, the Rangers have got some issues, to re-sign their own players and guys like [Dominic] Moore and Brian Boyle will be out there, looking for some stability here. You know, a guy like Dom Moore - I mean, what a terrific job he did in the playoffs - and a guy that can certainly, in a seven-game series, be a guy that can try to shut down a P.K. Subban and be very successful at it. Those type of guys now are looking for some security. They can't get it with their respective clubs. I think a guy like Brian Boyle is going to end up with a five or six-year deal. It'll be interesting to see who can provide him with that."
There have been reports that Evgeni Malkin's friend Nikolai Kulemin could be a target for the Penguins. Kypreos said there are some pretty major positives and negatives to Kulemin's game.
"We watched him up here [in Toronto], and there's a certain level of frustration," Kypreos said. "The hands aren't great. He doesn't score. But there's something to be said about that, what, 6-foot-2 guy that's a big body and he can lean on people. Under the right circumstances, at the right price, he could check, and he can be a part of something here, and he's the type of guy that under the right team, playing the right system, he could have some success here. I'm still a big proponent of the L.A. Kings way, and that is big, strong, lean, and have some skill."
