Jameson Health System, UPMC Make Merger Official
NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - Officials with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Jameson Health System have formally announced their merger.
The New Castle hospital, now known as UPMC Jameson, actually began doing business under that name Sunday.
But Monday's news conference formally announced the new arrangement which calls for UPMC to invest $75 million in the hospital and another $10 million to recruit doctors.
The state attorney general's office in March signed off on a consent decree approving the long-sought merger between UPMC - western Pennsylvania's largest hospital network - and Jameson, based about 45 miles northwest of the city.
The deal requires UPMC Jameson to remain an acute care hospital for at least 10 years and maintain all contracts Jameson currently has with health plans through their expiration.
