Newly-Renovated August Wilson Park Unveiled In Hill District

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) - A park in Pittsburgh now has new life. The space was revamped and just reopened with a new name.

The spot, once known as Cliffside Park, is now the August Wilson Park.

"I'm very impressed. I was at this spot about ten years ago when it was quite undeveloped. It was a beautiful spot and I'm very happy to see the Hill District creating this green space," Robert East said.

Dozens of people came out over the weekend to officially open and celebrate the new park. Many hope it will have a positive impact, not only on their neighborhood, but on the city as a whole.

"I hope it will be a safe magnet for more community interaction and socialization, where the generations can come together and have relationships develop here and also for the kids to have meaningful experiences as they're growing up," Raymond Logan said.

"Oftentimes you hear that people are afraid to come to the Hill District, but I think this will be a nice, safe place for people to just gather and to celebrate and to enjoy life together," Sharnay Davis said.

Visitors of all ages were already enjoying what the park has to offer.

There is playground equipment, walking trails, benches, a performance space and a basketball court.

Two of the biggest highlights are old photos and a wall covered in quotes from August Wilson.

"I think the park is very beautiful and when I saw these quotes, that was my favorite part," Nikksa Morris said.
