Homes damaged after 'large explosion' in Lawrence County, police say

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (KDKA) — One person was injured and more than 35 homes were reportedly damaged after an explosion in Lawrence County.

On Tuesday, police said a contractor was removing debris from a home and garage on Pollack Avenue that was demolished on Monday. While an excavator was removing debris, police said "a large explosion occurred."

"The NCPD has taken over 35 reports for damage to nearby residences, most were for broken windows and cracked foundations," police said in a release.

Police said the explosion was not caused by any natural gas explosion, but the exact cause is unknown at this time. An investigation is underway.
