New Arrest Warrant Issued For Cal U Football Player Already Charged In Attack
CALIFORNIA, Pa. (KDKA) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for one of the California University of Pennsylvania football players accused in the Oct. 30 attack that resulted in a brain injury for a West Chester man.
A judge in Washington D.C. approved a federal prosecutor's request to revoke the bond for 22-year-old Corey Ford.
The Cal U senior had been released on his own recognizance after pleading guilty to DUI charges early this year. He hit a bicyclist who is now in a vegetative state.
The U.S. Attorney says Ford violated a condition of his bond after his arrest last week in California Borough.
Ford's defense attorney, Phil DiLucente, talked to KDKA after the warrant was issued.
"He [The judge] has placed a detainer on Mr. Ford," said DiLucente. "That is because Mr. Ford previously had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault while under the influence. While there is a bond hearing tomorrow, my client will be incarcerated up until that detainer is lifted."
DiLucente says his client admits he was with the five other players the night of the attack in California Borough, but he says Ford did not take part in the assault.
"My hope is that at the preliminary hearing, it will clear Corey Ford of any involvement of physicality resulting in the injuries that had occurred," DiLucente said.
