National Recruiting Expert On Pitt-PSU: 'I Expect Penn State To Be Ahead Of Pitt Every Year'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With college football's national letter of intent day coming up on Wednesday, Starkey and Mueller talked to Rivals National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell about Pitt and Penn State's recruiting class.
Farrell talked about the re-vamped rivalry between Pitt and Penn State under head coaches Pat Narduzzi and James Franklin and was asked if Narduzzi could ever really win the recruiting battle over Franklin.
"I don't think so, and that's just being honest," Farrell said. "It's nothing against Pat Narduzzi and his staff, I just think that Penn State is an established program. If you're talking about recruiting rankings every year, I expect Penn State to be ahead of Pitt every year."
Farrell went on to talk about what it is that makes Penn State more desirable to recruits in his eyes.
"The NCAA has pretty much wiped away all sanctions and they're a hot program. James Franklin is a tremendous recruiter, they have 107,000 strong at home games, so they got the better atmosphere, they have better facilities, on and on it goes," Farrell said.
We also got Farrell's opinion on what the biggest factors are for recruits when they're choosing a school.
"Winning is number one, and then the ability to get to the NFL and then everything else is way down the list," he said.
