Narduzzi Sets High Expectations For Panthers
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- After eight of 15 spring football practices, University of Pittsburgh head football coach Pat Narduzzi said he is very happy with how the team responded this week, but he still isn't completely satisfied.
For most of the spring he has questioned the intensity or lack there of that he's observed at practice, but he is seeing improvements this week.
According to Narduzzi, it's not a question of effort but rather a lack of knowledge among the squad.
"I think they are giving good effort, I think they are exhausted still because we run them hard and they aren't loafing out there, they are flying around and it's high tempo," Narduzzi said. "They are trying and everyday we will get better so it's not a concern but I don't have a lot of patience."
He said Tuesday's practice was one of the best efforts this spring, but he still wants to see more and some changes to the depth chart this week proved just how serious he is about it.
"The hammer went down here and there but sometimes the competition is good when you've got someone breathing down your neck," Narduzzi said. "We always talk to the guys about you better be looking in the rearview mirror and who that guy is behind you and sometimes it's a reality check when someone moves ahead of you."
He puts a big emphasis on on reviewing film from practice and he hopes that the players that did move down in the depth chart can learn from the film as well.
"Hopefully, they see it on tape and go, 'Oh your right coach,'" Narduzzi said. "And then you try to work them to get better and to take that spot back."
Quarterback Chad Voytik says the new coaching staff has higher expectations for the team compared to previous coaches.
"I feel like were bringing energy, but if you don't execute they kind of misinterpret that as a lack of energy," Voytik said. "But he wants to see execution and so it appears we're not into it when we're not executing."
