Mystery Surrounds Cat Found By Animal Rescue League
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Animal Rescue League of Pittsburgh will be inundated with cats and kittens when the spring breeding season begins. But they already have a fine flock of felines, waiting for a home. And then there's the mystery cat of the North Side, whose embedded microchip raises more questions than answers.
"Found a name and a phone number," says ARL executive director Dan Rossi. "Called that phone number, and unfortunately it was disconnected."
He says further investigation revealed the cat's owner had died 14 months ago. Did the cat then become a stray, living on the street?
She was seen roaming around West North Avenue in Manchester, when a Rescue League board member trapped and rescued her on Tuesday night.
Her microchip indicates the late owner's name was Matthieu Pellissier, who lived near the yard where the cat was rescued.
"It's obviously friendly, at a nice healthy weight, and has been taken care of," Dan Rossi says. "Has she been able to do this on her own? Did somebody find her, and been taking care of her the last year? We don't know. It's a mystery. And we would love to be able to either reunite her with a friend or a family member of the gentleman who passed away, or whoever has had her the past year."

They believe she's about 2-years-old. But there's one thing they know for certain. She loves to have her ears scratched.
If no one comes forward to claim her by next Friday, the mystery cat will be put up for adoption to the general public.
