Movie Review: Guardians Of The Galaxy
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – I didn't read the comic books, heck I didn't even know anything about the movie until I first saw the trailer. But I'm definitely glad I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy.
It's a huge space epic that's full of laughs from some very memorable characters.
The movie is a lot of fun and not just for comic book fans (although they should love it.)
Marvel Studio's latest comic book-to-screen movie really reminded me of the first time I saw Star Wars.
Guardians of the Galaxy is part superhero, part western, and part comedy.
It's a cast of loveable losers featuring a tree, a raccoon, and even a pro-wrestler.
Who would have thought a tree that speaks very few words could be so loveable?
Chris Pratt takes the lead and his first steps towards superstardom as Peter Quill, or as he likes to call himself Star-Lord.
This is Pratt's first real leading role, and he does a great job with it.
He does a great job of balancing both his action scenes, and comedic scenes, creating a perfect blend that really makes him stand out in a lead role.
Of course Pratt couldn't do it alone.
Zoe Saldana stars as Gamora, Bradley Cooper voices Rocket, Vin Diesel voices Groot, and Dave Bautista stars as the buff Drax.
This group of heroes is definitely different from one we have seen before.
Marvel's The Avengers is a great team, but Guardians shows that hero flicks can have the action, and also add in some comedy.
One of the best parts about the movie? It has an excellent soundtrack.
It's not every day that a blockbuster film comes out with no top hits from this century.
Guardians of the Galaxy will introduce kids of this generation, to some great music of another generation.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the even though it's opening in August, Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be the blockbuster of the summer.
I can't wait for the sequel.
Grade: A
