PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police arrested Andre Mills, 48, for allegedly driving drunk and crashing into eight parked cars in Mount Washington.
Mills now faces charges for drunk driving, driving without a license, driving without insurance, possession of contraband, and damaging property.
Police said Mills hit multiple cars and caused significant damage along Southern Avenue, Simms Street and Penelope Street late Thursday night. Neighbors told KDKA they spotted a black SUV barreling down the street and dragging a piece of a car.
Police arrived on scene and arrested the driver who allegedly smelled heavily of the odor of alcohol. The arresting officer said Mills' eyes were noticeably bloodshot and he had an open can of Colt 45 in the car.
He allegedly told the officer, "I'm fighting with my two daughters."
The officer said Mills couldn't successfully complete a field sobriety test and needed to lean against the patrol car to stop himself from falling.
Police also found two bags of marijuana in his sock.
"I guess he bumped a car, missed a few and smashed another one, missed a few and smashed another one," said Denise Clark, neighbor.
Denise Clark said the alleged drunk driver hit her son's car and knocked his bumper off. She hid it on the back porch because it's garbage day on her street.
"Our bumper's on the back porch just so the garbage and the city workers wouldn't take it away," Clark said.
An alert neighbor captured Mills driving down Southern Avenue. It's video he sent only to KDKA.
He didn't want to be identified but said he heard a loud bang and scraping before he walked to the upstairs window to look outside. He told KDKA he then saw the car driving back up Southern Avenue toward his house.
The video shows a black Infiniti, which is the same car described by police in the criminal report. The video captures the sound of scraping metal, which is believed to be part of another vehicle.
Another neighbor said he had to break the bad news to his brother who was out of town.
"Well, obviously I didn't get hit. I just got back and said let me check my brother's and sure enough, you can see right there [that] his got whacked," said Galen Dorian.
He said it concerns him that this driver was allegedly driving drunk through his neighborhood. Police said Mills had an open container of alcohol in his car at the time of the arrest.
"I mean it's scary," said Dorian. "Obviously you got to take precaution and try to Uber and not drink and drive. I mean it's a serious thing"
Several of the damaged cars were towed away. There is no word yet on the total dollar amount of the damage.
