Moon Twp. Road Closed Due To Landslide

MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A section of a Moon Township road is closed Tuesday due to a landslide.

PennDOT says southbound lanes of University Boulevard between Stoops Ferry Road (Route 51) and Campus Drive will be closed until further notice.

Crews are working to clear debris from the road.

PennDOT Allegheny County Maintenance Manager Jason Zang told KDKA's Kym Gable, "We've been having so much rain that the ground just hasn't had a chance to dry up. It's almost like spring weather. We've been dealing with flooding, and water on the roadways, and pothole patching, and landslides."

Christine D'Antonio's Report:

Zang said his crews had been chasing calls all night. He says they know more weather challenges lie ahead.

"When the temperatures start to drop, (we will have) freezing conditions," he said. "So, we've got people working around the clock making sure we're keeping the roadways as safe as we can."

The rain was also the likely cause of a rockslide in Penn Hills on Allegheny River Boulevard on Tuesday morning.

The posted detour for drivers is along Stoops Ferry Road.
