MOON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - About 100 families are still without service Sunday after a gas leak in Moon Township.
A gas meter on Western Avenue made a popping sound, according to one neighbor, before the leak was discovered.
Initially, eight homes were evacuated and nearly 980 customers were left without heat Saturday morning.
Peoples Natural Gas told KDKA News Sunday afternoon that all but about 100 families had their service restored. The gas company was unable to access those 100 homes.
Some customers may not have their gas service restored until Monday morning.
Moon Township residents who are still without natural gas service can contact Peoples Natural Gas at 1-800-400-4271.
The gas company says the heavy rains Saturday night delayed their efforts to restore service sooner.
More than 50 crews were working in the affected areas to restore service to customers, according to Peoples Natural Gas.
Peoples Gas spokesperson Jackie Ziemianski said Saturday that the cause of the leak was under investigation.
