Monument unveiled to honor fallen Jefferson Hills officer

JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. (KDKA) - It was a somber day in Jefferson Hills but also a day to celebrate the life of a dedicated officer, Dale Provins Jr.

Provins died in the line of duty in 2020.

Dozens gathered at the municipal center in Jefferson Hills to honor and remember the fallen officer. He was a 15-year police veteran as well as a combat Marine.

On June 3, 2020, he was on duty and was killed when a drunk driver crashed into his cruiser.

In the days, weeks, and months following, the community rallied around his family and the department to raise funds for a monument in his honor.

"Dale was just an all-around great guy," said Chief Ron Dziezgowski. "He was a father, a brother, a friend, and a coworker. He just loved his job. He did his job and he made the ultimate sacrifice. We're here to remember him and memorialize him in so many ways."

The department worked with local businesses to make the design and three years later, construction was finished.

Also, in the memorial of Provins, there will be an annual blood drive held on Sunday, June 11, which will have a raffle, a bake sale, and an auction.

No doubt this monument will stand as a place to remember Provins and his sacrifice.
