Monroeville Shooting Leaves 1 Dead
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person was killed in a shooting in Monroeville early Sunday morning.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Northern Pike Garden Apartments.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as 23-year-old John Adam Stefano, of Turtle Creek.
"I heard gunfire," said neighbor John Baker. "I heard two shots and a series of shots, at least six in a row."
The blast from the gun woke Baker up and out of bed.
"It sounded 6 feet away," he said. "It was the closest I've ever been to gunfire. I'm gonna say it's just out in the hallway."
Stefano was found in the hallway of the apartment building and was taken to Forbes Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators spent the day talking to residents, gathering evidence and looking inside the victim's Range Rovers. Baker told police what he heard.
"I heard a woman saying, 'he's not breathing. I don't think he's breathing,'" Baker said. "She kept saying it over and over again."
Two males -- one a juvenile -- were taken in for questioning. They were later arrested and charged with weapons violations.
One woman tells KDKA there was an unreported shooting a few months ago. Meanwhile, several residents say they're ready to move. John Baker says that's not an option, at least for now.
"What can you do?" he said. "I love Monroeville, it's close to everything."
Stefano's girlfriend also tells KDKA that he was the father of several children, including a newborn baby.
