Man arrested in connection with homicide of missing woman found on Oil City bike trail

OIL CITY, Pa. (KDKA) - A man has been arrested in connection with the homicide of Marcy Nellis in Oil City after DNA found on her body led to his identification.

According to the Venango County district attorney, 59-year-old David Bosley of Oil City was arrested by state troopers Thursday morning.

After an autopsy was performed in Erie County, the district attorney said Nellis' cause of death was asphyxiation due to manual strangulation and she had been sexually assaulted.

Officials say Bosley became an immediate person of interest. Evidence, including a rape kit, was transferred to the Pennsylvania State Police crime lab in Greensburg. The district attorney's office said results linked Bosley to the crime and he was arrested.

Bosley is charged with homicide, rape by forcible compulsion, aggravated indecent assault, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse. He is a registered sex offender, according to police records. He was convicted of aggravated indecent assault and attempted rape in the year 2000.

Nellis left her home on March 26 to take her daily walk on the local bike trail. When she didn't return, a massive search effort ensued.

Police say when Nellis was reported missing by her family, a massive search and rescue effort followed with a helicopter, drones with night vision, boats and search dogs. Police say that a 12-hour search turned up nothing.

The next morning, Nellis' body was found near a stretch of the trail off Osborne Street just minutes away from her home.
