Body Found As Rescuers Search 2,400-Acre Mingo Creek Park For Missing Man
FINLEYVILLE, Pa. (KDKA) -- Helicopters, dogs, drones, cops and National Guard were all brought in for a search that spanned over hours Tuesday and Wednesday.
The search ended with a body -- an apparent suicide.
The National Guard and state police were called in to assist Washington County sheriff's deputies with the search of Mingo Creek County Park near Eighty-Four.
They were looking for a man in his mid-30s who went missing on Tuesday. Crews had a difficult time because of the rough terrain in the 2,400-acre park.
"We found his vehicle here," said Chief Deputy Tony Andronas with the Washington County Sheriff's Department. "And he had relayed to his co-workers that he would be in Mingo Park."
By early Wednesday afternoon, rescuers' worst fears were realized. They found the body of the 30-year-old from Washington County who had apparently shot himself.
Police say his social media posts indicated he was in mental distress.
