Mike Mitchell: Steelers Need To Get Crowd In Game Early
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- The Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at Heinz Field. Steelers safety Mike Mitchell joined The Fan Morning Show on Friday, and was asked about how important it is to force a turnover early in the game.
"We've got to figure out a way to get our crowd into it early, deter them from booing early in the game, and get them on our side. So a big play early would obviously help us to do that. But realistically, we just have to come out with that same intensity and emotion that we had on those back-to-back drives (in the second quarter against Houston)," Mitchell said.
Mitchell discussed what the Steelers need to do to minimize the impact of the Colts offense.
"We need to be physical, because their offense is high-powered. So I think doing a good job of being physical with their receivers. Our offense can help us out a lot by maintaining possession of the football, and obviously scoring points and doing their thing. That's how we're going to need to minimize their offense," Mitchell said.
The Steelers have alternated wins and losses this season. Mitchell was asked about the need to string wins together.
"We just need to be focused on going 1-0. I think if you go 1-0 every week, ultimately you end up stacking wins," Mitchell said. "We just have to go out here, stay focused on being 1-0 and beating the Colts. Don't worry about stacking wins or what people are going to say. Block out all of the outside noise, stay focused on us and what Coach Tomlin is telling us."
Mitchell told the guys that his relationship with Troy Polamalu has been really good.
"We have a great relationship. He's a very easy guy to work with. Everything you've heard about him is true. He's extremely humble, and just an awesome guy to play with," Mitchell said.
