17-Year-Old Boy Killed, Teen Girl Injured In McKeesport Shooting
MCKEESPORT, Pa. (KDKA/AP) - Police in western Pennsylvania say a teenage youth was killed and a teenage girl injured in an early morning shooting near Pittsburgh.
Officials in McKeesport said police were called to a home at 4:10 a.m. Saturday and found both teenagers with gunshot wounds.
Kelly Mullen was inside her home in the 2800 block of Idaho Street in McKeesport when Jason Daniels, 17, was shot and killed. Daniels is from Crawford Village in McKeesport.
"This is sad. This needs to stop. All the shooting around here," Mullen said.
"He's young and he was trying to do right. He's just trying to get his life together. He just got a girlfriend. We were just eating pizza and watching a movie. It's sad," Mullen said.
Mullen lives at the home with her roommate.
"Last night about 1:30 there was some gunshots through my open window and then an hour-and-a-half later someone is pounding on the door. I ran back to get my roommate and told him to check and said someone is coming through the door," Mullen said.
"When McKeesport police and paramedics get there, they find two people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They are a 17-year-old male and 15-year-old female," Lt. Andrew Schurman with Allegheny County Police said.
Police say the 15-year-old, who was Daniels' girlfriend, was taken to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was targeted.
"At this point in the investigation we're not exceptionally clear on the motive but we believe this was possibly a retaliation for a previous shooting," Schurman said.
"Violence is not going to solve anything. This is the third shooting in my house since I've lived here. I'm like ready to move," Mullen said.
If you saw anyone in the Idaho street area of McKeesport between 3 and 4 a.m. Saturday, you're being asked to call McKeesport police or the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit.
