McCandless man accused of firing shots into neighbor's home

Man accused of shooting into neighbor's Pittsburgh-area home

MCCANDLESS, Pa. (KDKA) -- A man accused of firing shots into his neighbor's house in McCandless was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.

The McCandless Police Department said the man was inside his home on Ringeisen Road when he started firing at the neighbor's house at around 3:30 p.m. Police later identified the gunman as Sean Yakelis.

"It was an AR gunshot, it was the rapid-fire gunshot. I knew exactly what it was," said the neighbor whose house was shot up.

The woman's house has 10 bullet holes, including a bullet hole not far from where she usually works from home.

"This is the dining room here and I usually sit right there. I was up in my bedroom though," she said.

"If I was sitting where I usually am, then yes, I would have been in the line of fire," she added.

McCandless police said the 41-year-old Yakelis fired all the shots from inside his home. There were no injuries, authorities said.

Police and SWAT responded to the armed standoff and talked the accused shooter out of his house. He was then arrested. State police returned on Wednesday night and searched the suspect's home for controlled substances and bullet casings.

"I don't know anything about him," the woman said. "We keep our distances. ... He lives there alone as far as I know."

The woman said she was thankful her husband and her 12- and 15-year-old children weren't home at the time.

Yakelis faces 20 charges in connection with the incident. McCandless' police chief said officers responded to Yakelis' home previously but did not give any details.
