Steve Blass has been involved with the pirates for 60 years, and that career is coming to an end this weekend.

Today Peduto designated Saturday, September 28 as Steve Blass day in Pittsburgh.

Peduto delivered a special proclamation to Blass, recognizing his six decades of service to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh community.

Blass has done it all with the Bucs. He was the Star right-handed pitcher who helped the team win a world series in 1971 against the Baltimore Oriels.

He is the last national league pitcher to throw a complete game in game 7 of the world series.

He retired as a player in 1974 and has spent the last 36 years in the broadcast booth as a game announcer.

This Sunday's game on September 29 against the reds will be his last call.

Blass almost retired in 2004, but now Blass said, "it just felt like the right time."

He wants to spend more time golfing, smoking cigars...and watching his grandson pitch for upper St. Clair.

"I'm so proud to represent this city and bring it a championship," said Blass.

He wants to spend more time golfing, smoking cigars, watching his grandson pitch for upper St. Clair, and having a "dog and a beer at the ballpark".
