Mayor Hoping To Find Alternate Location For Penguins' Big Screen
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A lot of Penguins fans were disappointed Monday when news came down that the team will not be setting up its "big screen" for playoff games later this week.
According to the Penguins, it's because of construction at the former Civic Arena site and the loss of parking spaces.
But all hope is not lost, Pens fans.
KDKA has learned there could be an alternate site.
Mayor Bill Peduto calls the big screen a "springtime tradition," and told us he's already discussed a backup plan with the Penguins.
"I found out this afternoon that the Penguins were not considering doing the big screen for the first round, so I called the Penguins President David Morehouse this afternoon and offered to assist to find another location," Mayor Peduto said.
Mayor Peduto also told us the Penguins do intend to set up the big screen on the arena site for second round games. Of course, the Pens have to get there first.
Other ways you can support the Pens in the playoffs including the yard signs being given away at Dick's Sporting Goods stores, the annual Beard-a-thon, social media and ticket contests, and rally towels will also be given away at home games.
The first round series against the New York Rangers begins Thursday at 7 p.m.
