Mayor Announces Return Of Pens Big Screen For First Round Home Games

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Earlier this week, the Penguins announced that a springtime tradition would be put on hold.

For the past few years, thousands of Penguins fans would gather to watch the team compete in the playoffs on a big screen outside of the arena.

Citing construction at the old Civic Arena lot, the Penguins said they would not be hosting big screen watch parties for the first round of the playoffs.

However, Mayor Bill Peduto stepped up and has reached an agreement with the Penguins to bring it back for home games against the Rangers.

"This is one of my favorite springtime traditions," Peduto said in a statement. "Penguins fans have shown up to the big screen by the thousands in years past. Working with the organization to continue the tradition for Round 1 this year was a no-brainer."

The big screen will be set up in Market Square for Game 3 and PPG Place for Game 4.

The puck will drop at 7 p.m. for both games and fans can arrive at the big screen locations starting at 5 p.m.
