Mark Kaboly On The Steelers Offense: They Are 'Here To Stay'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Mark Kaboly, beat writer for the Pittsburgh Tribune, called in to the Starkey and Muller show to discuss what he saw on film from the Steelers' 43-23 victory over the Baltimore Raven on Sunday.
Kaboly began with the Steelers offense, stating that they are "here to stay."
"As long as they keep protecting [Roethlisberger], I think they have enough weapons to be able to put up these kind of numbers," he said.
He is referring to the past 12 touchdowns with zero picks in the last two wins the Steelers added to their record.
"If you're talking about turning the corner as a team and being an absolute legitimate playoff contender, I'm still holding out over these next two games. I know it's against two winnable teams, but unless they beat the winnable teams, what they haven't been able to do on a consistent basis over the last couple years, I'm not sold on them yet. So I think their season lies on the Tennessee and Jets games," Kaboly said.
Kaboly also reflected on what stood on to him on film, specifically with the Steelers defense.
"James Harrison's a beast. He's back. He can do this every game. Yeah, he's looking good – he's providing something this team needs. But the scheme helped out a whole heck of a lot, at least against the Ravens and being able to get pressure on him," Kaboly said.
The scheme Kaboly is referring to is the pressure that the defense had on Sunday.
"They brought Harrison along with Polamalu on the blitz along with Hayward or Keisel on some sort of twist. The ravens offensive line just could not pick it up."
Another challenge the Ravens faced on Sunday was wide receiver, Martavis Bryant.
"He can run just about anything," Kaboly says. "You saw against the Ravens that now teams are a little reluctant of going up and trying to press Martavis Bryant because they're afraid to get behind him."
When asked the rest of Bryant's season, Kaboly replied, "I think we're going to see a lot more from him in the next seven games."
The next Steelers game will be against the Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m.
