PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Backyard barbeques aren't the only way to celebrate Memorial Day this year.

Lots of retailers and restaurants are honoring military members and veterans with discounts.

"Memorial Day is the kickoff to the summer season and one of the few weekends that retailers like Home Depot and Lowes offer an exclusive discount to active and retired military personnel," said Matthew Cheng of eCoupons.com.

Here's a list of chains giving out discounts this Memorial Day:

1. 24 Hour Fitness: In appreciation and support for millions of active and retired military personnel this Memorial Day weekend, 24 Hour Fitness is offering complimentary access to all guests at 24 Hour Fitness clubs nationwide.

2. Boston Market: On May 25th, 25% off any Memorial Day Special Family Meal.

3. Home Depot and Lowes: 10% Military Discount on Memorial Day Weekend to all veterans who served honorably and who present a valid Form DD214 or other proof of service.

4. Max & Erma's: On May 25th, free slider to every guest with the purchase of a beverage.

5. McCormick & Schmicks: On May 25th, complimentary lunch or dinner entree to members of the U.S. Military, National Guard and Veterans.

6. Red Robin: Free appetizer with any purchase of at least $10 between May 23rd and May 25th.

7. Shoney's: On May 25th, free All-American Burger to all active-duty and veterans of the military.
