Shooting and robbery outside Pittsburgh nursing home leaves man critically wounded

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A man was shot and robbed in the parking lot of a nursing home in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood on Wednesday, police said.

Pittsburgh police said first responders were sent to Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Frankstown Avenue around 12:30 p.m. for a reported aggravated assault.

When first responders got there, they said they found a 70-year-old man outside the nursing home lobby who had suffered "a through and through" gunshot wound to his stomach. He told officers that he was also robbed of cash and his wedding band. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, Pittsburgh Public Safety said Rawvil Yamil Brito Chirinos was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery and recklessly endangering another person in connection with the shooting.

Police said detectives don't know whether the victim lived at the building, but a Corner View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center administrator told KDKA-TV at the scene that he was visiting a family member.

In a statement, the nursing home said the victim entered the facility early in the afternoon asking for help after he'd been shot. The facility went into lockdown, which was later lifted, and the victim was given first aid. No residents, families or employees were hurt.

"Corner View would like to thank the Pittsburgh Police, Fire and EMT for their rapid response to the situation," the nursing home said in a statement. "Finally, everyone at Corner View has the victim and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

Pittsburgh police said detectives found a crime scene in the parking lot and the bureau's Violent Crime Unit is investigating.
