Man Shot In Beltzhoover, Found Dead In Car On Route 51
BELTZHOOVER (KDKA)- City homicide detectives are looking into a deadly shooting that happened early Thursday morning in Beltzhoover.
Officers were patrolling in the area of Haberman Avenue and Industry Street around 3 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots fired. They observed a dark gray Chevy Impala speeding away from the area.
Officers began to follow the car along East Warrington Avenue and onto Route 51. Officers engaged the vehicle near the Route 51 cloverleaf and eventually, the car pulled over near the Liberty Tunnels.
"The vehicle was disabled due to the number of shots that had been fired into the vehicle," said Pittsburgh Police Commander RaShall Brackney. "We know there were multiple people inside the vehicle, and the one rear passenger was deceased on scene."
According to investigators, the victim and occupants were stopped near Haberman Street when a black man opened fire on the vehicle. One of the shots hit the victim in the back seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has been identified as Stephon Reed, 23, of East Liberty.
No one else was injured and the vehicle's occupants were taken to police headquarters for questioning.
"We can confirm at this point that there is at least one shooter who walked up to the vehicle and discharged the weapon numerous times into the vehicle," Brackney said.
The investigation is ongoing. So far, no arrests have been made.
