Man Shot By U.S. Marshals Serving Warrant
FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) – U.S. Marshals shot a man Monday morning while trying to serve a warrant.
The incident happened in Uniontown, Fayette County, at a home on Nutt Avenue.
Investigators say 30-year-old Casey McDonald was wanted for escape from a halfway house. He was serving time for possession with intent.
When Marshals showed up to serve the man with a warrant for his arrest, investigators say he tried to escape through a window. That's when the Marshals shot him, wounding the man in his shoulder.
"That person attempted to leave by the second story window and he was shot," said Fayette County District Attorney Jack Heneks.
Al Thorpe was about 100 yards away getting his little girls on the bus when he heard the gunfire.
"I'm just terrified," said Thorpe. "I'm standing on the corner and the house is right there. I took my girls in the house."
Thorpe sheltered his daughter. But McDonald, shot in the shoulder, gave up.
"He was secured," said Heneks. "They brought him out of the residence, was still able to walk."
McDonald was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital, and is expected to survive. He was allegedly staying in a female friend's apartment.
The woman was also questioned by police.
