Man Sentenced In 2012 Strip District Fatal Hit-&-Run Case
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Canadian driver of a box truck that was part of an accident that killed a local woman was sentenced Tuesday morning.
Brian Jamieson was sentenced to six months house arrest, will lose his Pennsylvania license for a year, and sentenced to a year of probation after that.
Judith Kollar, of West Mifflin, was killed on Smallman Street in the Strip District in December of 2012.
She was hit by three different vehicles. The drivers of the first and third vehicles stopped to lend assistance. The other driver, Jamieson, did not stop.
He was tracked down near Erie and was charged with being involved in an accident that caused death or bodily injury, a third-degree felony.
At sentencing today, Allegheny County Judge Thomas Flaherty said if Jamieson did not know he hit Kollar, "As a professional driver, he should have been aware."
Members of the Kollar family read emotional victim impact statements. Afterward, Jamieson told the judge, "I am extremely sorry that I was in any way responsible for the loss the Kollar family suffered."
The victim's daughter, Caitlin Kollar, told reporters she wished the laws in cases like these were stricter, and hoped that Jamieson would never again have access to a commercial driver's license.
In the end she realized, "Nothing will bring her back."
