MCKEESPORT (KDKA) – Allegheny County detectives say a 72-year-old man was run over early Thursday morning in McKeesport's Harrison Village.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.

According to police, 32-year-old Jakiia Williams had been arguing with someone outside around 2:45 a.m. She allegedly got into her white Chevrolet Impala and attempted to run over the person she had been arguing with, but she missed and struck the 72-year-old man, who was standing on the sidewalk.

Williams tried to drive away from the scene, but police pulled her over. She was arrested and sent to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.

Neighbors woke up to see detectives using a measuring tape to mark and collect evidence. Another detective took pictures of the car's damaged front end and used Q-tips to swab for samples of blood.

The Chevy was surrounded by police tape until the tow truck arrived at 8 a.m.

Neighbors said the elderly man was "at the wrong place at the wrong time."

"I'm quite sure everyone is upset, but he definitely was a good dude and didn't deserve what happened to him," said Gina Smith, a neighbor.

"He was nice - the whole family is nice," said Dana Michael, a neighbor.

KDKA learned that detectives found spent bullet casings along the street. Police believe a bystander fired a gun at Williams' car, but no ballistic evidence was found to support that.
