Man Gets 12 To 30 Years For 2013 East Busway Robbery Death
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh man was sentenced to 12 to 30 years in prison for his involvement in a 2013 city robbery that ended with the victim being shot to death.
Twenty-two-year-old Desmond Young pleaded guilty in April to third-degree murder and robbery charges in the death of 21-year-old Omar Islam. He was sentenced Monday.
Prosecutors said Young and two other men approached Islam as he was sitting on a bench at the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway just before midnight in Oct. 2013.
Deputy District Attorney Ilan Zur said 17-year-old Jordan Bey shot Islam several times.
Young told police he agreed to participate in the robbery but fled after shots were fired. Zur said Young assaulted Islam during the robbery.
Bey was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.
