BEAVER, Pa. (AP) - A man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the stabbing death of a woman after an altercation in a western Pennsylvania apartment a year ago.

The Beaver County Times reports that jurors in Beaver County deliberated for about two hours Friday before convicting 53-year-old Kevin Hooks of Chippewa Township.

Prosecutors said Hooks held 59-eyar-old Deborah Hill-Payne down and stabbed her eight times in August 2015 in the Mulberry Apartments in New Brighton.

Defense attorney Simone Temple argued that her client acted in self-defense, saying he had been attacked by the woman and was "in a fight for his life."
