Man Charged In Memorial Day Boat Accident That Left 12 Injured

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A 20-year-old man has been charged after a Memorial Day boat crash left a dozen people injured.

Our news partners at the Post-Gazette report that Brandon Solomon was charged with boating under the influence, after the boat he was operating on Cheat Lake in West Virginia crashed into an embankment.

Barry Frey, who owns the local marina, helped with the rescue. He said they were a group of friends who'd been enjoying the Memorial Day holiday at the lake.

"The owner of the boat, I think, was a freshman in college. They were all acquainted, all friends," said Frey.

Twelve people were on board the boat when it crashed.

Three people were critically injured while two suffered severe injuries. Seven others on the boat suffered moderate to minor injuries. All of the victims were taken to local hospitals.

Solomon is currently free on a $32,500 bond.
