'I Think I Killed My Mom': Authorities Say Man Backed Over Mother While Stealing Her Car

TARENTUM, Pa. (AP/KDKA) - Authorities say a Tarentum man backed over his mother and another man while stealing her car and then crashed it.
John Spencer, 23, faces numerous charges following the Monday night incidents. It wasn't known Friday if he's retained an attorney.
Police say Spencer stole his mother's car as his mother and a neighbor tried to stop him. Sharen Seskey, another neighbor, saw the incident.
"He just put the car into reverse and backed up. The door was open. It hit his mom and the guy. The guy kind flew backwards," she said.
Seskey says he caused much more serious injuries to his mother.
"The door dragged his mom and slammed her into this stop sign right here, and she went down, and she then she kind of like went under the door as he pulled away," Seskey said.
Authorities say Spencer drove off after stealing the car, crashing it in New Kensington.
Spencer walked away from the wreck and, according to court papers, some passersby agreed to drive Spencer to Woodpeckers Pub in Upper Burrell. During that ride he allegedly told them five times "I think I killed my mom" and went on to say, "I hope my mom isn't dead or I'll be going to jail for a long time."
Authorities eventually found Spencer walking along a road in Lower Burrell. Felony aggravated assault by vehicle is among the charges he faces.
Seskey says Spencer's mother is still in the hospital with a broken arm, back and collapsed lung.
"She's a wonderful person, has done everything for him," Seskey said. "It's just bad."
The injured neighbor was treated and released.
