Man Accused In Mother's Murder Headed To Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man accused in the fatal shooting of his own mother last year has been ordered to stand trial.
Anthony Scholl's sister took the stand during the hearing Friday afternoon.
Dana Cummings testified that early on March 28, 2013; her sister told her she got a disturbing text from their brother. Scholl texted the other sister that he had allegedly killed their mother, Bernadette Scholl.
Cummings called him. She'll never forget the call.
During her testimony, Cummings said: "I asked him what was he doing. I told him I tried to reach mom and didn't get any answer. He said, 'She's never going to answer your call again. I killed her.'"
SWAT teams and negotiators surrounded that Munhall home back in March of 2013. Scholl holed up upstairs during negotiations. Police used a Taser before he was arrested.
His mother's body was still in the house. She died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Neighbors said at the time Scholl moved in with his mother after being released from prison for shooting his wife.
His defense attorney asked questions about a diary that Scholl kept at the house, but the contents of that diary were not discussed at the hearing.
In the end, that was enough evidence to hold Scholl for trial.
